What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is an integrative, science- based healthcare approach which treats complex medical issues and promotes wellness. Functional medicine is patient centered rather than disease focused and takes into account the biochemical individuality of each person and then tailoring interventions to restore physiological, psychological and structural balance. Our team will spend time with each person listening to their histories and looking into the interaction of environmental, genetic and lifestyle factors that influence long term health and complex, chronic disease. Our society is an experiencing an alarming increase in people who suffer from diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, hormonal imbalance and autoimmune disorders.
Our current medical system is broken due to most physicians approach towards treating chronic illness the same as acute disorders which apply surgery, medications or emergency interventions to eliminate the symptoms. Unfortunately this approach has led to 80% of chronic issues unable to be addressed and increasing in prevalence. Most physicians are not adequately trained to address the underlying cause of complex, chronic disease and to apply strategies such as nutrition, diet, detoxification, exercise and stress management.
The goal of functional medicine is to get to the root cause of a person’s medical issue and restore the body back to balance and optimal functioning. Utilizing specific functional testing our providers will assess the individuals digestive health, ability to deal with stress, diet and nutrition, habits , exercise habits, emotional health, neurotransmitters, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalance and inflammation. Each person is given a unique program to heal and balance their mind, body and spirit.
